Evangelism
Writer D. T. Niles once said that evangelism is one beggar telling another
beggar where to find bread. I like that description. As we well know, our
world is in desperate need of the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ. It
needs spiritual food and spiritual water to find sustenance for life eternal.
The joy of sharing the good news with others is the work of evangelism.
The Bible calls out some to the role of evangelist who have the wonderful
privilege of sharing Christ, encouraging churches and training others on
a full time basis and capacity.
I urge all Southern Baptists to pray for our evangelists. I urge Southern
Baptists to prayerfully consider utilizing evangelists in the ministry of
equipping, encouraging, and motivating people toward evangelism.
Over this past year, I have met some wonderful, committed evangelists
who very much wish to be a part of what God is doing in spiritual
awakening and revival across our nation.
As many know, our North American Mission Board evangelism people
are working on a ten year, multi-faceted, flexible strategy for evangelism
for Southern Baptist Convention churches. I have been encouraging
this from the very moment of my election as President of the Southern
Baptist Convention. I pray that churches will not wait for any convention
given strategy, but will go ahead and do whatever they can on the local
field to win precious people to Christ. Perhaps God would lead you to
utilizing the resources of a God–called evangelist in doing the wonderful
work of evangelism. Precious souls are dying and going to hell and need
to be reached for Christ before that fateful day.
